the rainy season had been generous with its full-coverage of clouds, but even the darkest cumulus couldn't hold back the evil light of azim. the kagon, to others, may have been as fanatical as the oronir, but generations had preserved a sacred truth they believed the rest of the Steppe had forgotten. the Mother and Father warred for nigh an eternity, and the foolish many had been so quick to accept (and forget) the treachery of the past, the circumstance of their birth, that if wickedness lied within the heart of their gods, then one could only imagine what horrors a man was capable.xaela were born into that war, but they were pure, and that was their burden. their battle against the dawn father's wicked schemes was forgotten in time. the world changed around them, and the faces of His progeny blurred with those of any other traveller. in an endless cycle the kagon kept the truth to themselves, shunning the day while others carelessly spread the ways of civilization and trade far to their south.qadan remembers the buduga raid as if it were yesterday. the monsoons flooded their route a moon early and his family were caught in the lowlands, mere malms from the respite that should have been the caverns beneath the towering still, where the uyagir made their camps and would offer them solace from the sun, if for a time. it wasn't ideal, but their tents had to be set erected in loose soil as daybreak would sooner threaten to spill over the pale hands that fastened ropes and secured the horses.separated from the rest of the tribe, they were. stranded but it wouldn't be so bad. ten hours until the sky would dim again...yet the buduga had been on their manhunts, and the envoy from those who'd made it across to the caves never made contact.the buduga saw an opportunity to bully the kagon. like fish in a barrel, horns sounded, horses charged, and the camp was quickly surrounded. the kagon were covered from head to toe, knowing what was to come, not fearing for their lives, but for the purity of their souls. the buduga in their conquest always threatened to pull down their tents and burn their yurts, expose them all to the light if they didn't surrender a capable boy or man. they would pull him into the sun and bid them leave their families behind, for the sun had touched them.qadan was made one such example, and exposed himself willingly, that his sons and family could time to escape. the raiders learned he would not go quietly, as earth and levin soared through the air. fire singed the hairs of the raider's steeds and even if qadan's spells were enough to run them off, the damage had already been done. the jacket he would have worn he'd given to his mother; his young sons huddled under his travel blanket as if sheltering from the rain. his family hurried west to the caverns, each silently accepting they'd be leaving a beloved son and a young father behind.when a man who reviles the sun finds himself scorched in the light the countless many cannot survive without...of what becomes his soul? pale skin burned and peeled, and with each scale that flaked away, so too did the man he was before. the light took him, wickedness seeped in, and he nor his family could trust him to be the remain the pious son of nhaama he had always been.the tears would come later, as more pressing things flooding qadan's mind. without his tribe he was as good as dead. with a sun-stained soul he didnt know which death was worse. ...the buduga found him later, in his desperate search for shelter from the high sun. they convinced him to return to their camp, where he would take up their name, as they were the only ones willing to take pity on him, and become his new family. even if it had all been their doing, qadan had made his choice, and accepted his fate. his loved ones were safe at the expense of his purity, and so he shed his old name, for he no longer deserved to wear it, and became buduga.for summers he raided with the best of them, took the tributes of lesser tribes and trained his body to the buduga ideal. while his physical strength grew the power of his spells waned. the ancestors withdrew their gaze and a former kagon, stripped of the dusk mother's light, truly believed himself a soulless husk lashing out the only way it knew how.his calm cruelty would entrust more of his buduga brethren to him, and he joined a party heading south over the mountains to investigate tales of metal men destined to conquer the star. they'd seek that prowess for the glory of the tribe, but the so-called 'imperials' had no intention of humoring wretches like them. they were told to serve under the imperial standard and fight in its army for the opportunity attain glory like no other. they could bring pride to their tribe and have a hand in their grand delusion of unification.no xaela in his right mind would believe 'metal men' would be their future...but qadan had seen their legions marching through the streets of doma, airships the size of the dusk throne filling the sky like ominous black clouds. they subjugated their enemies, tore the flesh off the brittle bones of what little pride remained of the doman people, and he'd never seen anything like it.frightened....and awed, the choice he made was hardly a choice at all. and it wasn't one he made alone.

'too much aether' that attracts voidsent (akin to the aether a padjal would emit) is fine. other instances i've seen (namely 'overaspected aether' to a specific element or polarity) doesn't make sense with the lore we have, and would leave a character terribly ill, disfigured, or dead, so i may not acknowledge it. sorry!

PETRIFICUS
renders the target stiff and immobile until the spell wears off. doesn't effect soulkin, ashkin, automata, and may fail against large creatures (dragons, mammoths, etc). [l]
EVANESCE
a veil of silence and shadow falls, masking self and nearby companions from detection in a small area. those in the affected area can't be detected by those outside it. if others step into the affected area, those inside will become visible. if the caster steps out the spell area, evanesce is dispelled. EPISKEY
mend some traumatic injuries, such as fractures and cartilage. for proper repair, breaks need to be set in place. misuse may cause joints to calcify. cannot repair organ damage. best used under the supervision of a trained medicus. do not use on the head.
